Our Sixty-Second Annual CHICAGO’S GREEKFEST 2010 will take place on the grounds of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 20, 21, and 22.  Help us celebrate the 82nd Anniversary of our beloved St. Demetrios. Help us continue the traditions and build the cherished memories through the years.

We continue to carry on the Festival idea brought to us by our mothers, fathers, and grandparents from their villages in every corner of Greece where every summer a Festival took place.  We still gather from every suburb and every part of the City of Chicago to eat, drink, dance and enjoy the fellowship of our families, friends, relatives and guests.

Come join us this year and enjoy the home made marinated souvlakia and chickens cooked on the grills, our freshly roasted succulent lamb, our home-made Pastichio, and Greek salad.  Perhaps a plate of Gyros, freshly carved from the spit will hit the spot!  Visit our Pastry Shops where you will find our home-made traditional Greek pastries Baklava, Galatobouriko, Melomacarona, and of course our made from scratch, fresh Loukoumades (deep-fried honey puffs).  Visit our Kafenio (Coffee Shop) and enjoy a cup of Greek coffee, or American coffee or have an unforgettable Frappe!   Then visit our AGORA  (Greek Marketplace)  and enjoy the handwork of our vendors, jewelry, toys, designer bags, scarves, Greek Imports and our own Myrovlitis Book & Icon  store with a beautiful selection of religious Icons and books in Greek and English, as well as other religious items for your home.

The children and parents are invited to visit our Kiddie Korner Classroom, extended to Saturday and Sunday evening this year.   There will be plenty of activities for children and adults to enjoy all weekend.  There will be dancing under the stars to Greek and American music provided by the incomparable John LINARDAKIS BAND and entertainment by our own accomplished dance troupes on Saturday and Sunday evenings.  If you visit us on Friday night you will hear the exciting NORTHSIDE BAND who will provide you with a lot of musical Rock n Roll memories from the 1970’s to the present.

You can also tour our beautiful St. Demetrios Church and take in the beauty and richness of Byzantine Iconography.  Our tour guide is always happy and ready to answer your questions about our beloved St. Demetrios Church and our faith!

There will be a cash grand raffle on Sunday night.  Come join us for the beautiful smells of our Greek cuisine and enjoy the music, laughter, and fun of being together like one big family that we are!  Add to our memories!

While we can’t promise you everything – especially when it comes to weather – because we all know how 2010  has been progressing with high temperatures tropical in nature and stormy nights…..but whatever comes our way rain or shine, our love for St. Demetrios runs strong over here on the north part of our beautiful City of Chicago and we plan to please you and add to the many memories we have gathered over the years!  Our clergy Father Apostolos N. Georgiafentis, Father Peter Sarolas, our Parish Council president  Mr. James Pappas and the three hard-working chairmen Mr. Zach Bazianos, Dr. John Laftsidis and Mr. Chris Tsiones and their dedicated committee invite you to join us and enjoy this weekend of family fun.

As we stroll through the years down memory lane….the hard work,  the teamwork, the endless preparation, the joy of the day, sometimes fighting the floods, and the endless clean-up….a magnificent adventure  becomes part of all of us along with lots of memories of the St. Demetrios Chicago’s FESTIVALS.

Join us. Spend the weekend with us and we will try to do our best to make your weekend memorable as well!
